Prepping for Valentines Day!

This week the children were able to use a variety of media to decorate wooden hearts. First, experimenting with crayons, markers and acrylic paint pens and finishing by adding string. Since a few children were absent I will bring back this project for after our winter break.

I have loved seeing all of the ice sun catchers around the wild woods! They are very easy to make at home. In a plastic container, collect natural materials such as leaves, pinecones, branches etc. Next lay a string, tying it to a stick helps keep it in the water. Add water to cover the materials and place outside overnight. When it is frozen solid, remove from container and hang outside. They are beautiful when the sun shines through them and also when they begin to melt. For added interest, you can use food coloring to create colorful ones.
