The autumn trees have dropped almost all their leaves this week. This has provided us with a whole new landscape of play. The kids had a great time building leaf piles and playing in them. This was a great opportunity for us to explore beyond our pavilion area a bit more as a group and find the best spots with the most leaves.
Our craft this week took full advantage of the fallen leaves as well as the approaching of Halloween. We found fallen leaves of various sizes and shapes and painted them white and black and added faces to create bats, ghosts and monsters. The kids showed a lot of creativity with this project. I originally only expected the kids to make bats and ghosts, like in the example I had created. But by the end of the craft we had a whole array of fun monsters and animals and all sorts of things I hadn't imagined for this project. It was fun to watch their imaginations feed off of one another and discover new out of the box ideas.
The kids in the morning class this week created a really cool "house" out of our climbing structure. They painstakingly cleaned it and played in it all day. Cece was especially interested in this game and really excelled in delegating jobs for different children to be involved in the game. This very detailed game of house started with them all chanting "clean the house! Clean the house!"
The game took a sudden and unexpected turn when they suddenly went from "clean the house, clean the house!" To "TRASH THE HOUSE TRASH THE HOUSE" in an instant.
We've had a week of new friendships being formed as well. It has been a lovely week of fall adventures.
