Dirt Cake

When I used to think of dirt cake, I’d picture a combination of crushed Oreos, pudding, and maybe even a few gummy worms.

These days my expectations for dirt cake look a little bit different. In The Wild Woods, dirt cake includes, quite literally, dirt... And sometimes creek water, leaves, rocks, acorns, etc.

While becoming expert dirt-cake bakers, the children are also practicing negotiation, collaboration, team work, delegation, and patience (and quantities, colors, sizes, -I could possibly go on forever, but I’ll leave it at that). Just one fun example for learning through play!
